SSC CGL 2017 Dates have been announced, and now the aspirants are waiting for the announcement of CGL Notification. It is expected that the Notification for CGL 2017 will be announced on 11th March, 2017 and soon after that Online Registration, begins. It is worth mentioning here that SSC had started the One Time Registration Process for all SSC Exams. The next big thing, you would like to know the Eligibility criteria for CGL 2017 Exam and possible changes in the Age Limit conditions. Well the good news is that, SSC had already uploaded a Notification on its website, that the Crucial Date for Determining the Age Limit for CGL 2017 Exam is 1st August, 2017. The Notification, clearly mentions, that as per the DOPT's instructions, cut off Date for all SSC Exams, should be as per the Schedule of Mains/Tier-2 of Exam. As the CGL Tier-2 Exam is to be held in August, 2016, and such commission had fixed 1st August 2016 as the Cut off Date.

As, In the CGL Exam, we have different Categories of Posts, having different Pay-Scales, therefore the Eligibility criteria for various CGL posts differs. While for most of the posts, Eligibility criteria is 18-27 years with Graduation. But for some of the posts, there is different Eligibility criteria. In case, there is a change in Eligibility criteria, it will be only for Age Limit, Graduation as Basic Qualification will stay as there is No change in Qualification criteria in the CGL Exam over the years.

In this post, we will discuss the Post wise Eligibility criteria for CGL 2017 Exam. We will also discuss the upcoming changes in the Age Limit criteria and also the updates on the upcoming CGL 2017 Notification.


Who is Eligible for CGL 2017 Exam ?


Applicants, willing to apply and appear in the CGL-2017 Exam should full fill the Eligibility conditions as mentioned in the CGL 2017 Notification.

As the CGL 2017 Notification will be released on  11th March, 2017, therefore the exact Eligibility criteria, will be known after that, but the below given eligibility criteria is based on the CGL Notifications of previous years.



(I) Nationality 


Applicants, willing to apply for the CGL 2017 Exam, must be of Indian Origin. Apart from this, subjects of below mentioned countries can also apply, provided that have been issued Certificate of Eligibility by the Government of India.

(II) Educational Qualifications


Applicants, willing to apply for CGL 2017 Exam, should full fill the below mentioned post wise Eligibility conditions for various CGL Posts

The Crucial Date for determining the Qualification criteria is 1st August, 2017. So, Remember, you should have obtained relevant Degree / Certificates, prior to that date

Basic Qualification: The Basic Qualification for CGL Exam in only Graduation. But some of the posts, you may need an additional qualification as given below.

1) Statistical Investigator: It is a Group B post in the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. For Statistical Investigator, you should have



  • Degree in any subject with 60% Marks in Maths at 10+2 Level OR
  • Graduation in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
2) Compiler : It is a Group C post in Registrar General of India. . To apply for Compiler post, you should have
  • Degree in any discipline with Statistics, OR Mathematics Or Economics, as the compulsory or elective subject at Degree level.
3) Assistant Audit Officer(AAO): The basic Qualification for Assistant Audit Officer is Graduation Only. But SSC had prescribed some Desirable Qualification for this post, given as under

  • Chartered Accountant OR Cost and Management Accountant OR
  • Company Secretary OR
  • Masters in Commerce (M Com) OR
  • Master in Business Studies / MBA (Finance) OR
  • Master in Business Economics

(III) Age Criteria for CGL Exam 2017


In this section, we will discuss the Age Limit for various CGL Posts, while for most of the posts, Age Criteria is 18 to 27 years, but there are a few posts, there is a different criteria.

Here is the List of posts having Age Criteria other than 18 to 27 years

1) Age-Limit : 20 to 30 years
  • Sub-Inspector (CBI)
  • Assistant Section Officer
  • Assistant (Ministry of External Affairs)
  • Assistant (AFHQ)
2) Age Limit : 21 to 27 years
  • Assistants in Intelligence Bureau (Ministry of Home Affairs)

3) Age Limit : 18 to 32 years
  • Statistical Investigator Grade-II
4) Age Limit: 18 to 25 years
  • Sub-Inspector in Central Bureau of Narcotics
5) Age Limit: 18 to 30 years
  • Assistant Audit Officer (Indian Audit and Accounts Department under CAG)
  • Sub-Inspector in NIA
  • Assistant Enforcement Officers

Note : For the rest of the posts, the Age Limit is 18 to 27 years

Important Points to Note


1) The Cut off Date for determining the Eligibility criteria is 1st August, 2017. That means, you should have acquired the relevant degrees and reach the specified age Limit before 1st August, 2017

2) The proof of Age, to be considered for checking the Age Limit is Matriculation Certificate.

3)  Applicants, must note that their Admission in CGL Written Exam is completely provisional. At this time, there will be No Scrutiny of your documents. But all these documents, will be checked, during the Tier-3 of exam.
